Students who enrol in my Grade Eight Teacher Designed Program will find themselves in a "class" with other grade eight students from all over BC. They are provided with books and assignments, a schedule, online and phone support, and regular feedback. This program is a good choice for parents who want their teens to study at home, but don't want to oversee all the details.

Roughly half of the year's work is done on the computer. The school year is divided into quarters and the core subjects are semestered (Math and Socials are completed during the first semester, English and Science during the second). Students regularly send their work to the teacher for assessment, though some work is self-marked. They are given opportunities to interact with other members of the group.

This program is delivered through a Moodle-like program called Canvas. (very slick!)

Students who succeed in this program have
  • ready access to a computer in good working condition
  • keyboard skills
  • high speed Internet connection
  • some regular, parental oversight
  • independent study skills and motivation
